Mordant is live

Mordant is playable today, right in the browser, on desktop and mobile: play it here.

It’s a flood-fill puzzle. The board is a grid of six colors, and the stain starts in the top-left corner. Every move recolors the whole stain at once — pick a color, and every connected cell that color touches joins it. Keep going until the whole board is one color.

Clear a board and a new one starts, sorted fresh, with one fewer move than the round before. There’s no fixed target score — you play until you run out of moves. How many rounds you clear is the score.

It’s a small, free game: no ads, no sign-up, nothing to install. What’s not there yet: sound, an options menu, and no high score saved between visits. All three are on the list.

Mordant is the first of a handful of small web games I’m planning for the studio — Gruit, Pack Your Truck, and Pizzar, just to name a few, are still just ideas, nothing built yet. If you want to see how many rounds you can clear, it’s live now.
